The sheer frustration of Do-Don-Pachi Dai-Fukkatsu.

I've been playing this a lot, it's the best goddamn app on the iPhone/iPod Touch ever. Mind you, even that's a biased opinion because my main focus is STGs and Rhythm games, and Dai-Fukkatsu certainly isn't a rhythm game.

In any case, many of you over at shmups know that I'm pretty ambitious when it comes to high scores. Like the Mars Matrix Counterstop I've recently achieved a few days ago.

By the way, thanks to those for the motivation back in the shmupsforum, and especially thanks to ACR, whose video helped immensely to achieve the CS.

Anyway, back to Dai-Fukkatsu. One of the main things in the game is the ability to take hidden routes depending on what you shoot.

Here's the method of unlocking the hidden route for Stage 1, which then leads the way to unlocking hidden routes for the other 4 stages, given that you don't die.

In a nutshell, unlocking Stage 1's hidden route is as follows.

  • Destroy silo 1, then 2. (Both must be destroyed before the tanks get to them)
  • Destroy first tank
  • Destroy silo 3
  • Destroy second tank
  • Destroy silo 4
  • Destroy third tank
  • Keep the hyper gauge full

It may be simple but I can only achieve the hidden route on an average of once per 3 runs, and it's pretty frustrating. Missing out on ONE of those conditions ruin the chances of ever reaching the hidden route, and I guess today, I had a pretty bad day.

All my runs constantly consist of this.

  • Run 1: Hyper fills up, I used it, I didn't kill silo 1 fast enough and the tank runs over it. RESTART.
  • Run 2: Hyper fills up, I used it, destroyed silo 1, destroyed silo 2, tank kills me. RESTART.
  • Run 3: Hyper fills up, I used it, destroyed silos 1 and 2, destroyed 1st tank, destroyed silo 3, destroyed 2nd tank, destroyed silo 4, destroyed 3rd tank, chaining bar drops to 0, scoring potential completely destroyed. FUCK. RESTART.
  • Run 4: All necessary things destroyed, hidden mid-boss appears, mid-boss' laser killed me. RESTART!
  • Run 5: repeat of Fuckup runs 1-4.

So you see, the sheer inconsistency's really pissing me off, but that's okay, because CAVE games are so good I can't go mad at it forever, especially when the X360 port's coming out.
